I have found the gamification of this course to be incredibly rewarding and fun, something that I plan on using with students of my own one day. Below you will find the badges I have earned along with a description of how each represents a particular set of knowledge that contributes to my 21st century teaching repertoire.
Gamification
does not mean playing a game, but instead, using the elements of game-play to
motivate students in completing learning activities and rewarding them for
their efforts! Specifically, we will use these game design elements:
1) TASKS
in a mission to earn a badge;
2) BADGES;
3) REWARDS;
4) and LEADERBOARDS (one that you keep to help you understand your individual progress in the game).

I was awarded
this badge for demonstrated an understanding of the knowledge a teacher must
gain to plan and implement online and blended lessons for flipped and distance
teaching.
I was also
required to complete a series of tasks that explored what blended, online, and
flipped learning environments are, and the practical background knowledge of
activity types that can be used to enhance face-to-face learning with elements
from these environments.
In this
task I learned how to design my own online learning activity! I also learned to
understand how to structure the online learning module for effective learning.
Through
completing this badge I demonstrated an understanding of the structure of a
Project-Based Lesson and how to implement that lesson using tech-enhanced
activities
I was
required to complete a series of tasks that explore Project-Based Learning,
including tech-enhanced reading and writing activities, to create my own
example of a PJBL-based lesson.
After
gaining this badge I developed an understanding of the structure of a
Problem-Based Lesson and how to implement that lesson using tech-enhanced
activities. I also completed a series of tasks that explore Problem-Based
Learning, including WebQuests, to create my own example of a PBL-based lesson.
This mission introduces you to your digital footprint. It answers the question as to why you need a digital footprint. Everyone will have a digital footprint no matter how hard they try, so in this badge, I learned about strategies for making my digital footprint a positive and professional presence on the web.
For this
badge I completed a series of tasks that explore Digital Citizenship, issues
around Netiquette, Cybersafety, and Copyright. I also explored the Web 2.0
tools that lead to skills of effective Web 2.0 thinkers.
All of theses badges lead me to the ultimate victory! The revered Cup of Wisdom!
